Actually i am not sure whether is appropriate to discuss the planted tank in this fish section or not? P but then my tank also got few small fish, so consider fish tank too, only the main object of the tank is plants.
hehe, here goes the pics feel free to share ur thoughts abt the setup, i know it is abit messy without any proper arrangement of the plants oops
It has a natural look.......thumbs up 4 the setting.....
Ur tank would look much nicer is u put in some (a small school) of neon tetras.
Maybe others can comment on this .....TQ
I will post u a photo of the neon tetras. [img07cc38a1d8]http//i57.photobucket.com/albums/g218/limweijuean/Exotic%20Pets/Neon_Tetras.jpg[/img07cc38a1d8]
[quote6a27443c39="alligator_28"]I made a mistake......are those neon tetras already in ur tank?[/quote6a27443c39]
not really a mistake because those in my tank are cardinal tetra, i used to hv bad experience with neon tetra, same to all my friends, it will slowly die off one by one for unknown reason...eventhough it is cheap, around rm1 for a pair, but in long run still costly...so i rather spent little bit extra to get a cardinal tetra, price is around rm2.5 each, but it is very very lasting as compare to neon tetra, much nicer and color is more intense.. wink
so far i hv 5 cardinal tetra in my tank, which have kept more than 1 year . i cant add more fishes to my tank because i have quite a number of cherry shrimps in there, also the bioload of the tank is a concern since i only hv one small hang on filter is running for the tank. )
WOW!!!!!what a impressive planted tank (if compared to last time) u got there... must go to ur house one day to see ur 5 footer and planted tank... shock shock
it look strange to have the plant on the central right hand side (dont know the name)... oops oops (i know nothing ab plant) oops oops it looks not match to the tank or too obvious. just my observation... ) but overall, it looks very nice. make me feel like wanna have it...heheheee... roll
colim, can u describe a bit ab ur planted tank like how to maintance?the cost? maintainance?? the thing needed to setup a planted tank?? D if possible, i wanna setup too... roll wink

yup..i noticed that too, i got this big plant from a good friend who stay nearby, it is an expensive plant, last time used to sell like rm50-60, but i got it as free...and then i found out got no space to plant it, so simply plant at the foreground first lor, now a bit regret... also i am waiting for this plant to grow some baby out , so that i can pass it back to my friend...

i will share it here soon, need to type lot of inputs lol
guess i can start to share about how to setup a simple planted tank, pls dun expect anything like those professional planted tank.. oops
my tank setup is base on one objective, the lowest the cost the better and yes, i am a cheapo lol
the list of my setup
2.5ft standard tank DIY tank hood (will talk more abt this later) HangOn filter 4 inch AC fan 25kg of river sand, comman name is holland sand one pack of base fertilizer (JBL brand the cheapest) one piece of medium size driftwood (recommended, will tell u why later) Liquid fertilizer DIY CO2 system
DIY tank hood, i bought few pcs of woods from hardware shop and build the tank hood on my own.
the tank hood is consists of
3 x 2ft philip cool daylight 865 series fluorescent tube 1 4ft aluminium(not sure but it is light and wont rusted) reflector 3 x 20watt electronic ballast 1 4inch AC fan
the wooden frame need some basic carpenter knowledge to build, some tools are needed too...hammer, saw, nails and etc i can always share my opinion if u really want to DIY one of ur own.
ok, after builded the wooden frame, i cut the 4 ft reflector into 2, and join the 2 pcs of reflector side by side to form a large piece of reflector which nicely fit into the wooden frame...
i will elaborate more if anyone interested to know the detail...a bit lazy to type and think abt the process i went through.. P
hi fish lovers, colim i think ur fish tank's abit too crowded....it looks like a jungle for your fishes hahaha...anyway it's a nice way to setup the tank! thumbs up! 8)
Colim I am intrested in your DIY CO2 System.. Do you mind to help to explain abit hehehe.. Coz I am reading somethings on planted tank and it seem a bit complicated on the CO2 Storage and distribution

Colim...maybe u can give doink some pointers on how to build a DIY CO2 System. Reading from the net may somtimes be a bit confucing. Since u have 1st hand experience, why not share with all of us......
My worries is that the algae might "eat" into the plastic and it wil be almost impossible to take out the green stain. So i think glass is a good option. If u do not have any other use for the plastic aquarium maybe u can try out the planted aquarium in the plactic aquarium. Maybe let us know how is the feed back from time to time. If it works out maybe others can try it out too. TQ~!!!
